INGOMAR
film, 3m 52s, 2021
The film is inspired by Vilhelm Krag's story "A Gentle Day" from 1916, where the fisherman Ingomar tells a story about corpse-eating mackerel, and sunny days that are not what they seem.
In this film we see a man who is on his way out to sea in a small boat. He has all the components one needs to go fishing, but they do not make sense to him. The objects in the boat, the clothes, the water, the man and the Sun suddenly exist independently of each other, and appear without coherence. I questioned, what happenes to the human when this hierarky is dissolved, and you lose your sense of place.
What happens when the perspective is shifted? I am interested in the Free fall, where subject can become object, and there is no difference in human and thing. In this space, things will talk to things and humans, but humans may need to remember what it is to be a thing. And here, we might discover more about how to interact with other states of being. There is a underlying desire to reach this state of being where one can communicate in other languages, particularly the language of things. There is some latent power in just existing, as in Presence, which is a language of itself. With Presence there are a lot of factors communicating with the surrounding matter. Radiation, shedding, dust, pheromones, reflections, heat, sound or echo, and so on. In this project, I examine the body that works and provides, process thoughts about uselessness and meaninglessness, and that which lies purely in the aesthetic.
Original music composed and performed by Juni Andrea Ek for the film.
